Bond confronts international villains. Bourne confronts his own agency. It is fascinating. It allows for more plot twists. It is like going from reality to Virtual Reality. You turn on yourself.
Bourne could go on forever. Jason Bourne. Maybe in a decade someone else. And so on. The CIA could be made to look more and more sinister. It is totally in sync with Americans’ deep skepticism of all things government. Why spare the CIA!
Bond, on the other hand, glorifies the government. Her Majesty’s Government.
There is also this biologically enhanced, super trained, super smart, loner super soldier. He knows the agency inside out. If you are five minutes from him, he is gone, don’t bother looking for him.
Bond is British. Bourne is American. He has a gun. No one but no one confronts the CIA quite like Bourne, because no one, but no one is capable.
The CIA needs to be demystified. Bourne will do it.
Bourne is a Libertarian.
